Taking care of our students in the Permian Basin is at the heart of Educate Midland. In addition to helping academically, Educate Midland is invested in connecting our community to local charities and providing what we can to families in need this holiday season.
While we’ve accepted a lot of change in 2020, from social distancing to virtual learning, we believe some things should never change, as the giving spirit of the holiday season is needed now more than ever. The coronavirus pandemic has taken a toll on each of us in many ways, making it especially important to know how to give back to our community and those in need of extra support, love, and care.
If you’re uncertain about how to give back while staying safe during this difficult time– don’t worry; there are many ways to safely support those in your community. Below is a list of local charities accepting donations and volunteers this holiday season:
West Texas Food Bank

“The West Texas Food Bank has been feeding families in Odessa, Midland, and the entire West Texas area for more than 35 years. As the largest nonprofit, non-governmental hunger-relief organization in the Permian Basin, we’re proud to distribute donated and purchased food to children, families and seniors with help from more than 80 partner agencies. As a team, we’re able to provide food to individuals across 34,000 square miles of Texas.”
In addition to encouraging online donations this year, the West Texas Food Bank is still encouraging in-person volunteering in a responsible manner that maximizes social distancing and added sanitary precautions. Give or volunteer on their website!

“Family Promise of Midland helps the community coordinate their compassion to address the root causes of family homelessness. We address the issue holistically, providing shelter paired with extensive case management. We tap existing local resources to empower families towards economic stability. Families come to us in crisis; we help them rebuild their lives with new skills and ongoing support.”
Family Promise of Midland hosts many fundraisers throughout the year. The proceeds of these events go towards providing the best services we can to our guests. The annual fundraisers include: Clay Shoot at Windwalker Farms, Hitting for Hope, Keeping the Promise, and No Room at the Inn. Communities in Schools of the Permian Basin

They work closely with local school guidance counselors to identify families that are in need of assistance while allowing family information to remain private.
